Financial Relief and Education Support Extended to Differently-Abled Family

Dehradun Administration Extends Major Relief to Differently-Abled Family Burdened by Debt

Dehradun, May 21, 2026:
In line with the Chief Minister’s vision of compassionate and people-centric governance, the Dehradun District Administration once again demonstrated sensitivity and humanitarian commitment by extending significant relief to a financially distressed differently-abled family residing in East Patel Nagar.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal took swift cognizance of the plight of Sanjeev Kumar, a 100 percent differently-abled man, whose family had been struggling under severe financial hardship and mounting debt. Acting promptly, the District Administration arranged payment of the outstanding loan amount of Rs 64,915 through CSR funds. In addition, financial assistance of Rs 25,000 was provided from the Rifle Club Fund to help the family restart livelihood activities and regain financial stability.

Sanjeev Kumar had availed a loan of Rs 50,000 in 2018 from the Uttarakhand Multipurpose Finance and Development Corporation to start a mobile repairing shop. Initially, he regularly paid 15–20 installments. However, the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown in 2020 completely disrupted his business, leaving him unable to continue loan repayments.

Over time, the unpaid amount accumulated and an RC of Rs 64,915 was issued by the corporation and forwarded to the Dehradun Tehsil for recovery proceedings. Already battling physical disabilities and financial instability, the family found itself in deep distress. Sanjeev Kumar is 100 percent differently-abled, while his wife is 65 percent differently-abled. The family was surviving solely on a monthly pension of Rs 3,000, and the deteriorating financial condition had begun affecting the education of their three young daughters.

During the public grievance hearing, Sanjeev Kumar informed the District Magistrate that recovery pressure was mounting and that he was being threatened with legal action and possible imprisonment by revenue officials. The situation had pushed the family into fear, stress and uncertainty.

Considering the gravity and humanitarian aspect of the case, District Magistrate Savin Bansal immediately directed officials concerned to ensure payment of the pending loan amount through CSR and Rifle Club funds so that recovery proceedings could be closed and the family could receive immediate relief.

The District Magistrate also ensured that support extended beyond financial assistance. He instructed the District Programme Officer, Child Development Department, to examine the case and provide educational support to the couple’s three daughters under the “Project Nanda-Sunanda Shiksha Kavach” initiative, ensuring uninterrupted education for the children.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal further directed officials to handle such sensitive cases received during public grievance hearings with empathy and priority, ensuring that no needy person is deprived of support and assistance.
