Haripur Kalan Educational Institutions to Remain Closed from July 31 to August 11 Due to Kanwar Mela

Online classes to continue as Dehradun administration prioritizes student safety amid heavy Kanwar pilgrim movement

Dehradun: In view of the increasing influx of Kanwar pilgrims during the Shravan Kanwar Mela-2026 and the anticipated traffic diversions in Haripur Kalan, the Dehradun district administration has ordered the temporary suspension of physical academic activities in all educational institutions located in the area.

According to an official order issued by District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, all government and private schools, higher educational institutions, technical and vocational institutes, and Anganwadi centres situated in Haripur Kalan under Rishikesh tehsil will remain closed for physical classes from July 31 to August 11, 2026.

Decision Taken to Ensure Student Safety

The district administration stated that the number of Kanwar pilgrims passing through Haripur Kalan has been increasing steadily since the commencement of the Shravan Kanwar Mela. The movement is expected to intensify in the coming days, necessitating road closures and traffic diversions to facilitate the smooth passage of devotees.

Considering the anticipated congestion and the safety of students, teachers, and staff, the administration has decided to suspend offline academic activities during the peak Kanwar Mela period.

Online Classes to Continue

To ensure that students’ education is not disrupted, all educational institutions have been directed to conduct online classes throughout the closure period. Schools and colleges will continue academic activities virtually until normal operations resume.

Strict Compliance Directed

The District Magistrate has instructed all educational institutions and concerned departments to strictly comply with the order. The administration emphasized that ensuring public safety, effective traffic management, and the smooth conduct of the Kanwar Mela remain its top priorities.
