Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a review meeting of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 at the Secretariat on Monday. The meeting focused on strengthening urban sanitation systems, solid waste management, and preparations related to the Char Dham Yatra.
The Chief Secretary directed officials to develop a comprehensive and efficient mechanism for solid waste management across the state. He instructed departments to prepare and submit a detailed action plan at the earliest to ensure systematic and sustainable waste disposal.
Keeping the upcoming Char Dham Yatra in mind, he emphasized maintaining cleanliness along the pilgrimage routes and at district entry points. He also directed that additional funds be provided for effective waste management in these areas. District Magistrates were instructed to ensure proper sanitation around all Char Dham routes and shrines, along with optimal utilization of the allocated funds.
On sewage management, the Chief Secretary stressed that 100% utilization of treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) should be ensured for non-potable purposes. He called for a clear roadmap to implement this across the state, promoting water conservation and reuse.
He further directed that all Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants and waste-to-energy projects in the state be completed and made operational at the earliest. To improve monitoring of door-to-door waste collection, he also instructed the swift implementation of a Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS).
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Secretaries Nitesh Kumar Jha, Ranveer Singh Chauhan, and Dr Ahmed Iqbal, among others.
