Dehradun district administration launches a major anti-encroachment drive under CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives, seizing illegally parked vehicles and clearing footpaths to improve traffic and pedestrian safety.

In strict compliance with the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the district administration on Tuesday launched a large-scale joint enforcement drive against illegal encroachments and unauthorized parking to ensure smooth, safe, and hassle-free movement for the general public in Dehradun city.
The joint operation was conducted under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal. During the drive, hundreds of illegally parked two-wheelers and four-wheelers occupying footpaths and roads were seized, and on-the-spot challans were issued.
The enforcement teams carried out intensive action across major locations including Ghantaghar, Rajpur Road, Ashley Hall, Darshan Lal Chowk, Kanak Chowk, Lansdowne Chowk, and Chakrata Road. Vehicles parked in no-parking zones and on pedestrian footpaths were removed, and vehicle owners were issued strict warnings. The administration clarified that while challans are currently being issued, repeat violations in the future will result in cancellation of vehicle registration.
Strong action was also taken against illegally operating street vendors, roadside stalls, and mechanical shops encroaching upon footpaths. Goods belonging to these establishments were seized, and legal proceedings were initiated as per rules. Additionally, illegal posters, banners, and other obstructions placed on public roads and footpaths were removed during the operation.
Food outlets found operating without proper waste disposal arrangements were penalized. Shopkeepers who failed to keep dustbins and were found dumping garbage in the open faced strict action. The administration emphasized that cleanliness and traffic discipline are non-negotiable and violations will not be tolerated.
Senior officials reiterated that footpaths are meant exclusively for pedestrian movement and not for parking vehicles or running commercial activities. The joint drive aims to curb the primary causes of traffic congestion and road accidents and will continue on a regular basis to ensure encroachment-free roads and a well-managed traffic system.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to providing convenient and safe public facilities to citizens and stated that the campaign against illegal encroachments will remain ongoing.
The joint operation witnessed the presence of Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, RTO Sandeep Saini, RTO Anita Chamola, Circle Officer Pramod Kumar, Tehsildar Pradeep Negi, along with officials and staff from the Municipal Corporation, Police Department, and District Administration.
The district administration issued a clear message that strict enforcement against encroachments will continue without relaxation, ensuring pedestrian safety and smooth traffic flow across the city.
