Dehradun DM Dr. Ashish Chauhan Springs Into Action Immediately After Taking Charge, Focuses on Swift Resolution of Public Grievances

Dr. Ashish Chauhan assumed charge as the District Magistrate of Dehradun and immediately displayed an active administrative approach by attending the public grievance hearing programme held at Rishiparna Auditorium in the Collectorate premises. During the programme, he listened to citizens’ concerns and directed officials to ensure timely and quality disposal of all complaints.

Dehradun, May 25, 2026: Addressing the gathering during the public interaction programme, the District Magistrate emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and prompt resolution of grievances. He instructed officials to develop an online grievance tracking and redressal system at the district level so that complainants do not have to make repeated visits to government offices for the same issue.
A total of 115 complaints were received during Monday’s public hearing programme, most of which were related to land disputes. Other issues included loan waiver requests, construction of flood protection walls, financial assistance, damaged culverts, pathways and encroachment-related matters. The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments to ensure effective and time-bound action on every complaint.
Eight families from Ranipokhari Grant demanded the construction of a flood protection wall in view of the risk posed during the monsoon season. Taking the matter seriously, the District Magistrate directed the SDM Doiwala to conduct a joint survey with the Irrigation Department and initiate necessary action immediately.
Manju Bisht, a resident of Tunwala, alleged that some individuals attempted to encroach upon her private land by damaging fencing and using a bulldozer to destroy the land demarcation. She demanded a fair inquiry, fresh demarcation of the land and strict action against the accused. The District Magistrate instructed the SDM Sadar to take immediate action in the matter. Similarly, directions were issued for the speedy disposal of a land dispute case pending since 2008 in Vikasnagar tehsil.
Regarding complaints related to a damaged culvert and repair of the Kathang canal in Jhitaad village of Chakrata block, the District Development Officer was directed to inspect the site and prepare a proposal for necessary work.
Mohan Kashyap, a resident of Sahaspur, appealed for loan waiver and requested the administration to stop the auction of his house. He stated that he had taken a loan of Rs 40 lakh from Awas Financiers Limited in 2023 and had regularly paid installments till 2025. However, due to expenses incurred on his mother’s treatment, her demise, sisters’ marriages and business losses, his financial condition deteriorated. Meanwhile, the company issued a public notice regarding the auction of his house. The District Magistrate directed the Lead Bank Officer to investigate the matter and submit a report.
Sapna, a resident of Dalanwala, sought financial assistance to continue her nursing education, while Arsh, a resident of THDC Colony, requested issuance of an EWS certificate for admission to the BSc Nursing course.
The District Magistrate also took serious note of the issue of elderly resident Prem Singh living in a dilapidated house and directed the Municipal Corporation to take immediate action. In another case, the SDM Sadar was instructed to investigate complaints regarding illegal encroachment on Gram Sabha land in Rampur Kalan and ensure removal of the encroachment.
The public grievance programme was attended by ADM (Administration) K.K. Mishra, Joint Magistrate Rahul Anand, SDMs Smrita Parmar, Apoorva Singh, Kumkum Joshi, Vinod Kumar and Aparna Dhaudiyal, along with Project Director Vikram Singh, District Development Officer Sunil Kumar and several district-level officials from various departments.
