Over 9,080 Cases Resolved in a Single Day During National Lok Adalat in Dehradun
Under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dehradun successfully organized the second National Lok Adalat of 2026 on May 9, 2026. The Lok Adalat was conducted from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the district headquarters in Dehradun as well as at the outlying courts of Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Doiwala, Mussoorie, and Chakrata.
Various categories of cases, including motor accident claims, civil disputes, family matters, cheque bounce cases, compoundable criminal cases, and other settlement-related disputes, were taken up during the National Lok Adalat.
In Dehradun district alone, a total of 5,844 cases were disposed of, with settlements amounting to ₹13.36 crore. These included 251 compoundable criminal cases, 515 cheque-related disputes, 17 recovery matters, 14 Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, 105 family disputes, 26 public utility service matters, 4,835 compoundable offences under the Motor Vehicles Act, 12 consumer forum cases, 34 civil matters, 9 arbitration cases, and 26 other settlement-worthy disputes.
At the Vikasnagar outlying court, judicial officers resolved 978 cases through mutual settlements involving an amount of ₹22.67 lakh. Similarly, the Rishikesh outlying court disposed of 537 cases with settlements worth ₹2.31 crore. The Doiwala court resolved 242 cases involving settlements of ₹22.80 lakh, while the Mussoorie court disposed of 56 cases with settlements totaling ₹47.55 lakh.
Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, and Senior Civil Judge Seema Dungarakoti stated that National Lok Adalats play a crucial role in strengthening the dignity and effectiveness of the judicial system. She said that Lok Adalats promote harmony, mutual understanding, and dialogue among parties, thereby fostering peace and social cohesion in society.
She further emphasized that Lok Adalats serve as an effective platform for providing simple, accessible, and speedy justice to the public. Decisions passed in Lok Adalats are final and binding, and court fees deposited by litigants are refunded after settlement of cases.
During the National Lok Adalat, several pre-litigation disputes related to banks and other institutions were also settled. A total of 3,236 pre-litigation cases were successfully resolved, with settlements amounting to ₹2.18 crore.
With the disposal of 9,080 cases in a single day, the National Lok Adalat proved to be a significant initiative towards ensuring speedy and accessible justice in Dehradun district.
