Focus on strengthening marketing strategy and improving product outreach
Dehradun.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal on Monday conducted an extensive inspection of various development initiatives and women self-help group (SHG) units in the Kalsi region. During the visit, he reviewed production processes, product quality, and marketing systems of goods being prepared by women SHGs.
The District Magistrate directed officials to ensure that products manufactured by SHGs are registered on Google Maps, so that their market reach can be expanded from local to national levels. He emphasized the need for a concrete action plan to promote and market SHG products effectively.
The DM visited the Koti Kalsi Growth Centre and assessed ongoing industrial and self-employment activities. The centre produces products such as apple jam, chutney, and ginger candy. He instructed officials to develop a robust marketing strategy to enhance the visibility and sale of these products.
At the Development Mahila Haripur CLF cold-pressed oil unit, he reviewed production activities and appreciated the health benefits of the oil. He also stressed the need for better market linkages for SHG products.
During the inspection, the DM directed officials to resolve the drinking water shortage at the Growth Centre at the earliest.
The DM also inspected the Amrit Sarovar (Dhoira), reviewing maintenance, water conservation, and beautification efforts. He instructed the Fisheries Department to provide training to SHG women in fish farming and prepare a detailed technical report for promotion of the site.
The pond was constructed under MGNREGA and was handed over to a women’s group about seven months ago, where natural fish farming is currently being practiced.
The District Magistrate visited the Kalsi Dairy Farm and reviewed milk production systems, animal husbandry practices, and local employment generation.
He inspected cattle sheds, treatment facilities, and an ultrasound machine installed on the premises. He directed coordination for a mobile ultrasound unit based on the pending request.
The DM also planted saplings during the visit.
Established in 1962, the Kalsi Livestock Breeding Farm is a key government facility working on conservation and improvement of Red Sindhi and Jersey cattle breeds. Operating under the Uttarakhand Livestock Development Board, it functions as a Centre of Excellence for embryo transfer technology.
The farm produces and distributes quality breeding bulls to improve local livestock genetics. Additionally, a fodder bank operational since 2010 provides feed support to farmers.
The District Magistrate instructed officials to ensure that all schemes and units operate as per prescribed standards and that maximum benefits reach local communities.
Senior officials from the Rural Development Agency, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, District Development Officer, Chief Veterinary Officer, and representatives of self-help groups were present during the inspection.
